Country data you can rely on.
In 2020, REST Countries was founded to solve a simple problem: provide developers with a reliable API for country data. Existing datasets often contained outdated population figures, broken flag images, and weren't consistently updated to reflect changes around the world.
Since then, REST Countries has served over 1.5 billion requests, and that number continues to grow. We've handled requests from every country and territory in our database. Along the way, we've evolved the platform to meet the needs of businesses, universities, and governments by providing reliable, scalable, and accurate data about every country in the world.
Every field is sourced and reconciled against authoritative references, including ISO standards, the UN, and primary government records. Static fields are reviewed on a regular schedule. Dynamic fields, such as population and current political leaders, are refreshed every 4 hours. Just as importantly, our API does not use tracking.
We're compliant with all major privacy legislation, including GDPR, PIPEDA, CCPA, and Quebec's Law 25 (Bill 64). We also adhere to all licensing requirements for the data and assets we use and distribute.
We built REST Countries to be the data source that was missing online. It's a service backed by a team that cares about data integrity, reconciliation, thoughtful design, developer experience and the highest industry-standards when it comes to uptime. When country data matters, it should come from a source you can rely on, not one you have to second-guess.
If you're evaluating REST Countries and would like to discuss your use case, I'd be pleased to help.
